Professor Teltschik is a long-time confidant of former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and was, until shortly after German reunification, his advisor on foreign policy and security. He is known as an architect of the treaties between the two German states and between the Federal Republic of Germany and Poland, the Soviet Union, and the three Western allies, which, after the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989, paved the way for the peaceful reunification of Germany. On 9 February he gave a speech at the DOC´s New Year reception about the future of Europe.
