Carl W. Drexler joined the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute in Berlin in the first week of May. He has great fundraising experience in international organisations and has worked as a fundraising director at Greenpeace Central & Eastern Europe and Resource Development Director at HABITAT for Humanity Europe, Middle East and Africa. Mr. Drexler has also worked as Head of Corporate, Foundations, and CSR at UNICEF in Rome and held a similar position at AMREF (African Medical Research Foundation) at their headquarters in Nairobi, best known for the Flying Doctors.
“Now I am looking forward to making a lasting contribution to the DOC Research Institute by creating an impactful fundraising strategy, together with my colleagues,” says Mr. Drexler.
Before changing to the humanitarian sector Mr. Drexler had a long career in sport that included four years at McLaren in Formula One, and a final experience in sport as Director of Sponsorship and Sales at the Winter Olympics 2006 in Turin. After this he used a sabbatical to drive from Rome to Mombasa by car, which offered five months of reflection time and resulted in a change from sport to the non-profit sector.
Mr. Drexler likes to travel, having visited over 70 countries including more than 20 in Africa. He is keen on all sports one can practice on the sea and in the mountains, ice, and snow. He is motivated by diversity and everything new that one can learn from it.
