Debating Migration to Europe, edited by Raffaele Marchetti is the first book in a new DOC series, which will focus on the key challenges in world politics with a critical and pluralist angle.
The editor gives a brief introduction, setting the contours of the political debate on migration in Europe today. This is followed by two very powerful and contrasting arguments for and against migration to Europe, and a response from each contributor to the other.
The pro-immigration chapter is written by Philippe Fargues, one of our most eminent migration scholars, whilst the anti-immigration chapter is written by Anatol Lieven, a renowned expert on nationalism. The authors engage directly with the other’s position, deepening the debate and searching for common ground, and suggesting solutions.
This text will be of key interest to readers, scholars, and students of international migration, migration and development, European politics, political theory, and more broadly to public policy and international relations.
DOC Research Institute will have the first copies to be presented during the 15th Annual Rhodes Forum on 6/7 October on the Greek Island of Rhodes.
Raffaele Marchetti is Senior Assistant Professor in International Relations at the Department of Political Science and the School of Government of LUISS, Italy.
The new World Politics and Dialogue of Civilizations Series assumes that mutual understanding is the fundamental prerequisite for humankind’s inclusive development, and that open, respectful, and equitable dialogue among different cultural and civilisational frameworks is essential in these times of dramatic global change and uncertainty for developing effective cooperation and partnerships.
The series aims to explore alternative models for social, political, and economic development at the regional and global levels in order to advance theoretical understanding, promote political debate, and provide policy-oriented advice on the six DOC Research areas.
