De Futuro is a new series of articles published within the Chairman’s Voice section, by the DOC’s Supervisory Board Chairman, Vladimir Yakunin.
The twelve short essays will be published monthly between September 2017 and August 2018 and will focus on the future of various aspects of global politics, economics, and social life.
The first article, ‘Clash or Dialogue? The Rhodes Forum and the Challenge of the Century’, is released today and relates to the fifteenth anniversary of the Rhodes Forum, its developments, and the choices faced by those building the architecture of global relations.
“We do not claim to have solutions to all the mounting problems humanity faces. What we do offer, though, is a tried and tested approach to engaging multiple parties in work to find these solutions, in work to bridge the divides that weaken our societies, and in work to reinforce an international agenda of positive and respectful interaction that builds a fairer and more prosperous world”, states Vladimir Yakunin in his first De Futuro article.
The following article, The Tiger and the Dragon: How the Rise of New Poles of Power Shapes the Globe, is due in October and relates to the nineteenth CPC Congress in China.
The Rhodes Forum has previously reported successful predictions regarding global tendencies. For instance, the third Rhodes forum in 2005 publicly warned of the global financial crisis that started in 2007. Furthermore, in 2008 the Rhodes Forum identified migration as one of the major challenges of a globalised world, and in 2012, the Forum warned of the European refugee crisis that erupted three years later.
