Chairman of the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute (DOC), Vladimir Yakunin, attended the inauguration of the President of the Republic of Armenia, H. E. Armen Sarkissian

and congratulated him for his persistent promotion of dialogue among civilisations


Armen Sarkissian assumed the Armenian presidency in Yerevan today and he invited Vladimir Yakunin to attend.

Sarkissian was previously Armenia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, and prime minister of Armenia between November 1996 and March 1997. He has also served as a special advisor to the president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and as a governor of the bank from 1993 to 2000.

Dr. Sarkissian is founding President of Eurasia House International in London, which fosters critical dialogue and cooperation among political and business leaders. It is involved in bridge building between the West and the vast geographic space extending from Eastern Europe to Russia, the CIS countries, and China. He was the founder and director (until 2011) of the Eurasia Centre at the Judge Business School, Cambridge University, with expertise in state-building structures and free-market transition processes.

In October 1991, Dr. Sarkissian established the first embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the West – in London. In addition to his diplomatic mission to the United Kingdom, he went on to become the senior ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Europe and concurrently represented Armenia as ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and the Vatican. He was reappointed as the ambassador to the United Kingdom in 1998 and again in 2013.

Dr. Sarkissian is one of the initiators of the Eurasian Media Forum, held annually in Kazakhstan. He holds honorary and executive positions in numerous international organisations, including being a member of the Dean’s advisory board at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and at the Harris School of Public Policy Studies, University of Chicago. He is a board member of IREX, the International Economic Alliance, and the Global Leadership Foundation, and is an honorary senior research fellow at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Queen Mary & Westfield College, London University, and at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, and the National Competitiveness Council of Armenia.

Sarkissian was a member of the DOC´s supervisory board from July 2016 and will now step down from this position to fully concentrate on his new presidential responsibilities.
