Berlin, 14 November 2018: The Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute (DOC) and partners are opening applications for a two-week winter school in Moscow in December, focusing on ‘The concept of empire in Russian politics: Past and present’. Partners in the project are the DOC, the Chair of Eastern European History at Berlin Humboldt University, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), and the Moscow State University (MGU).
The winter school aims to create a comprehensive understanding of the Russian state and its core features affecting both foreign affairs and internal politics. It will also examine and analyse socio-politics and state-building in the post-Soviet space. The programme begins on 10 December and ends on 21 December.
Teaching staff at the winter school will consist of professors from the Moscow Higher School of Economics, the St. Petersburg European University, MGIMO, MGU, St Antony’s College at Oxford, UK, and the Columbia University’s Harriman Institute, New York.
Starting with participants from Germany in 2018, next year the winter school will expand to include students from France, Italy, and China.
Workshops and lectures will be held in English. You can download a list of all this year’s DOC Winter School workshops and lectures by following this link. The target group are students of political and social sciences with at least a bachelor’s degree, or distinguished advanced bachelor students.
The Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute (DOC) awards the ten best-qualified applicants with participation in the winter school and will cover all accommodation and travel expenses.
