CEO Jean-Christophe Bas and External Relations Director Grigory Levchenko of the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute (DOC) on February 8 met President of Mali Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta in Berlin during his state visit to Germany.
African development – a core theme of the upcoming Rhodes Forum 2019 – was at the heart of the meeting between the two parties. The DOC presented the agenda of the institution and of the Forum, which will take place on October 11-12 in Greece.
“The African continent has always been home to a diversity of cultures and traditions, and is an example of dialogue between nations and civilizations. I am glad that your organization pays such attention to questions of peaceful coexistence and development of the African continent and the world”, said President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta.
“The DOC has focused on issues of African development for several years, as we believe this continent will be a driver of global growth in the future. We
have a good record of relations with senior representatives of Mali who attended our events at a high level, and we share respect and passion for your unique culture and talented people. We would very much want to further develop these mutually fruitful relations. Our aim is to help put African issues and questions of the Sahel region into a larger global agenda and global trends,” said Jean-Christophe Bas.
The Rhodes Forum is an annual summit, first held in 2003, which brings together leaders from the business, academic, diplomatic and political communities, including current and former heads of state and government, to discuss crucial issues facing the world today. The Forum aims to establish an open dialogue based on the key values of humanity and contribution to sustainable and inclusive global development.
