The event was hosted in Dilijan by President of the Republic of Armenia Armen Sarkissian. Armenia is the first country to host the event outside Chamonix, France.
As the summit’s official website reads, “Armenia is ready to act as a vital bridge between different countries. For this purpose, it needs friends’ support. How can the world invest in Armenia and regional countries? And how can the world benefit from Armenia? The “Summit of Minds” in Armenia is a unique opportunity for the participants to feel the old and the new at the same time that the country has to offer”.
More than 100 leading political and military figures, scientists and analysts, businessmen and entrepreneurs participated in the Summit of Minds. The key objective of the summit is to better understand the complex and rapidly changing world, to present new ideas about key issues of global interest, establish mutually trusted partnership ties through direct discussions.
Among the event participants were former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin, former US National Security Advisor James Jones, Special Representative of the Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy, James Zhan, Director of Investment and Enterprise at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Massimo Inguscio, President of the National Research Council of Italy, Siemens director Jan-Marc Lischka, THALES Vice President, regional director Paul Remi, President of the Crans Montana Forum Pierre-Emmanuel Quirin, and President and CEO of the US National Defense University Foundation William Parker and etc.
During the Summit Dr Yakunin spoke at a panel “The Value of Diversity”, moderated by Steven Hirth, Founder and Principal, S. H. Hirth & Associates (USA) on the “Diversity and Humane Values as the Core Foundation for Global Development”. In his speech Dr Yakunin noted: “All civilisations are facing the same challenge today, which can be expressed as humane versus inhumane. This core contradiction of the present period has yet to be thoroughly and attentively studied and analysed.”
In the framework of the Summit the DOC Chairman had meetings with President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, Former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin, Steven Hirth, Founder and Principal, S. H. Hirth & Associates (USA), Matthew Rojansky, Director, Kennan Institute, The Wilson Center, USA and other.
