Francis Gary Powers, Jr., son of the legendary U-2 spy plane pilot Francis Gary Powers, and consultant on the production of the Bridge of Spies movie – which centres around the famous spy exchange on Glienicker Bridge near Berlin – will show the movie followed by a Q&A discussion and book signing at the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute on November 9, 2017, in time with the 28-year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The movie Bridge of Spies, produced by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks, played in cinemas in 2015. Francis Gary Power Jr. is one of the production consultants for the film, which is not only a popular Hollywood movie, but is based on historical facts about the famous spy exchange involving Francis Gary Powers and Soviet Spy Rudolf Abel during the Cold War.
„It is a great pleasure to work with the DOC Research Institute to honour Cold War veterans, preserve Cold War history, and educate future generations about this period of time. I look forward to providing some background information on the movie Bridge of Spies and my book Letters from a Soviet Prison during my talk to help separate fact from fiction,“ says Gary Powers, Jr.
Francis Gary Powers Jr. wants to preserve memories for future generations and has not only contributed towards the production of the movie, but is also a founder of The Cold War Museum (www.coldwar.org) in Virginia.
During the event there will also be a special ‘Cold War menu’.
