November 15-16th, 2018 under the auspices of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic the Second International Conference “Islam in a Modern Secular State” will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The purpose of the Conference is to analyze the situation, discuss the contemporary issues and search for approaches to harmonize relations in the Muslim communities, develop recommendations for improving the effectiveness of democratic governance in the religious sphere, prevent radicalization and widespread of extremist ideas.
Within the framework of the II International Conference “Islam in a Modern Secular State”, it is planned to discuss the following issues:
- Models and practices of religious and religion studies’ education;
- Covering religious issues in media and internet;
- The role of religious women in modern society.
Representatives of state bodies, academic and expert community from different countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and America and international organizations (the UN, OSCE, etc.), specializing in the religious sphere and countering extremism will attend the Conference.
For reference: The First International Conference “Islam in a Modern Secular State” was held in September 28-29, 2017 in Bishkek under the auspices of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. Within the framework of the conference the place and role of Islam in modern secular states and issues of deepening international cooperation in regulating processes in the religious sphere and countering extremism were discussed. As a result of the Conference the “Bishkek Declaration on the Role of Islam in Modern Secular States” was adopted, which contributes to the development of recommendations on improving the interstate dialogue and interaction in the religious sphere.
