About Forum

Held since 2002, the Rhodes Forum is an annual session of the World Public Forum Dialogue of Civilizations (headquartered in Vienna). From 2016 it will be a key annual event organised by the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute (headquartered in Berlin).

The Rhodes Forum takes place on the Greek island of Rhodes, and gathers from 300 to 600 participants from over 70 countries. Key guests and speakers include acting and former presidents and senior officials, members of the international academic community and business elite, representatives of international non-governmental organisations, diplomats, experts from various fields, and the media.

The Rhodes Forum has consistently sought to promote a new culture of dialogue that is so desperately needed. Today, the World Public Forum’s community is committed more than ever before to achieving this goal.

The Forum always seeks to reflect key issues on the international agenda. Forum participants share their views on current events, and address ideas for possible solutions to some of our most pressing problems to both decision-makers and to society in general. This part of the international community’s broader efforts to protect the key values of humanity and to contribute to sustainable global development.

The agenda of the 14th Forum will comprise a number of overarching themes, such as:

  • civilizations against the new barbarism
  • alternative economic models
  • human ecology
  • global inclusive development
  • reconciliation and peace between East and West
  • new strategies for growth based on infrastructure investment.
