Biography

George Chatzimarkos, the Governor of South Aegean Region, was born in Rhodes. In 1997 he was already involved in community politics, when he got elected to the position of Financial Supervisor on the Five-Member Direction Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Dodecanese. In 2001, he was reelected, and held the office of Vice-President of the CCI of the Dodecanese.  In 2006, he was elected President of the Chamber and he remained in office until the 31st of December 2010, when he chose to resign from his post to enter the 2010 Municipal Ballot race for the office of Mayor of the City of Rhodes obtaining 42.3% of the votes.

In May 2014, he got elected Governor of South Aegean with the independent peripheral movement “Mprosta to Notio Aigaio” (South Aegean ahead)
