Demet Sabancı Çetindoğan is a third generation member of the Sabancı Family who is the founding family of Sabancı Holding. Sabanci Holding is one of the two largest Turkish conglomerates, with companies operating in many sectors from banking to energy

Upon receiving her degree from Richmond College, UK, Demet Sabancı Cetindogan worked in the textile companies of the Sabanci Holding for twenty years.

Her career as an entrepreneur started in 1999 with DEMSA A.S., the textile retail company she founded in partnership with her husband, Cengiz Çetindoğan..Demsa continued its progress by representing from luxury to affordable brands and designers such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Alexandre McQueen, Juicy Couture, Michael Kors, etc… to consumers in Turkey and setting up seven store chain “Brandroom”. DEMSA also operates two of the famous British department store chain’s Harvey Nichols stores and the luxury multi-storey store chain of France Galleries Lafayette in Turkey and receives high acclaim with its distinctive, stylish stores. The number of DEMSA stores exceeded 130 with more than 1500 employees at the end of 2016.

In 2015, DEMSA purchased the majority shares of HIREF. Its gift collection concepts are inspired from Turkish culture and history.

Demet Sabancı Çetindoğan is also the Vice President of the Board Directors of DEMSA A.Ş. In addition, she undertook the position of President of the Board of Directors of ONKIM, the stem cell research company she founded in 2006 and the position of Vice President of the Board of Directors of DENSA Deniz Taşımacılık (Densa Sea Transportation) which she founded in 2008 with her brother. Demet Sabancı Çetindoğan purchased Pera Palace Hotel in 2012. The hotel was first opened to welcome guests of Orient Express in 1892. Pera Palace Jumeriah Hotel is an historical Ottoman landmark by being the first building with electriciy, elevator and running hot water. Another landmark hotel of Istanbul, Macka Hotel, was purchased by Demet Sabancı Cetindogan in 2010. The hotel was reconstructed and re-opened under the St. Regis brand in March 2015.

DENSA is an international maritime transportation firm founded in partnership with Demet Sabancı Çetindoğan’s older brother Ömer Sabancı. Currently the company is in possession of a fleet of more than 1.7 million deadweight ton, consisting of 22 carriers.

Mrs. Sabancı Çetindoğan founded a museum foundation containing the choice works of Turkish Art of DEMSA collection. The collection includes 19th century Islamic Art to contemporary Turkish paintings and sculptures, and contemporary international paintings. The museum building is going to be designed by internationally acclaimed architect Zaha Hadid, which will be in Golden Horn, in Istanbul.
