On the occasion of the UNESCO World Day for Intercultural Dialogue, the Festival of Cultures will take place for the twelfth time in a row on Thursday, June 6 from 4 pm. to 10 pm. With free admission, 25 nations from four continents will be inviting you to their typical cuisine, culture and art. As in previous years, over 5,000 guests are expected. The organizer is the Intercultural Association “Kulturen bitten zu Tisch” with the support of the Research Institute “Dialogue of Civilisations” (DOC), the Dialogue Centre KAICIID, the City of Vienna and the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Europe and Integration.
This time, partner organisations from the following countries will host the international culinary highlight of the year: Argentina, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Cape Verde, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Hawaii (USA), India, Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Colombia, Croatia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Romania, Turkey and Venezuela. Cultural diversity and exotic entertainment will be provided this time by artist groups from a total of 12 regions, including India, Sri Lanka and Peru.
For the culinary delicacies a small contribution is to be paid, the net proceeds benefit social projects of the respective countries.
Diplomatic dinner for peacekeeping dialogue
This year again, ambassadors from numerous countries have announced their intention to attend the cultural dinner, where traditional dishes from all participating national organisations will be tasted together.
The aim is to promote intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding for different values and worldviews on a social and political level and to call for peaceful coexistence.
The official opening of Kulturen bitten zu Tisch by the District Director of the 9th District of Saya Ahmad and Walter Schwimmer, Secretary General of the Council of Europe a.D., is at 4 pm. The programme will be guided by Franz Wallisch.
