Join DOC in Berlin to hear renowned elite researcher Michael Hartmann discuss his recent book: ‘Die Abgehobenen – Wie die Eliten die Demokratie gefährden’

The elites are eroding democracy, says elite researcher Michael Hartmann.

The elites are becoming more and more a closed society. This applies not only to the economic but increasingly also to the political elite. Their living worlds and those of the population have been drifting apart for decades. They believe that they have their own rules and produce one tax and financial scandal after another. The renowned elite researcher Michael Hartmann names the consequences: political disenchantment and right-wing populism.

Some rant on “those up there”, others on elite bashing. It is worthwhile to take a closer look:

– Who are the elites?

– How are their attitudes and their origins related?

Hartmann’s findings: The elites are a self-recruitment firm that is eroding democracy. Only through a radical social opening of the political elite is a turnaround possible.
