Join DOC to hear from Dr. Hans-Peter Martin, author of The Global Trap and Bitter Pills, as he will hold a lecture based on his new bestseller Game Over.
Game Over, which was shortlisted for the German Business Book Award 2018, provides an explosive analysis: the system is crashing.
According to Martin, growing sectors of the population are turning their backs on democracy, including the elites. The financial crisis is still bubbling away merrily; trade conflicts are already showing threating results, the economy is in a downturn. Climate change is displaying its extremes, and so is China. Martin warns of a looming “capitalist surveillance communism”. Robotics and digitalisation will increase the existing enormous inequality in society even further.
Populists and authoritarian regimes will use the private mass of data of each of us in order to cement their power. The new nationalism is seen by many as a cure-all but it ends in war. Game Over. Free play uncertain. And then what? Hans Peter Martin suggests various unconventional ways out.
Dr. Hans-Peter Martin, long-standing Spiegel correspondent and independent EU parliamentarian, is one of the most successful non-fiction writers, with more than 7 million copies of his books sold. The Global Trap (with Harald Schumann) and Bitter Pills have been translated into 28 languages.
The lecture will be held in German language.
