On 18 April 2019 the ‘Methods of field religious studies: Tools for field analysis’ master class and roundtable will be held at the Tomsk State University.
The events are organised by the university’s philosophy department, together with the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute. The master class will be led by Dr Roman Bykov and Dr Alexey Starostin.
The audience will consist of students, undergraduates, and graduates of humanities departments studying history and the current conditions of religious communities in Russia, as well as practitioners working in the fields of inter-faith and inter-ethnic relations.
Students will learn different methods of religious studies, including how to work with historical, documentary, and statistical sources, and how to conduct field research on traditional religions, new religious movements, non-institutional religious practices, and non-traditional religious beliefs.
